The Cuyler Addition
ARCHITECTURE AND BUILD: Oak Design PHOTOGRAPHER: Sarah Crost STYLIST: Brit Sartin
This historic Oak Park home was thoughtfully expanded to better support modern family life while honoring its original architecture. A modest addition introduced a new primary suite, family room, and mudroom, designed to feel seamlessly integrated with the existing home. Every decision was guided by the scale, proportions, and detailing already present throughout the house, allowing the new spaces to feel seamlessly connected to the historic structure rather than distinct from it.
The new primary suite offers a quiet retreat, complete with a light-filled bath that balances classic detailing with modern comfort. A generous family room provides space for gathering and everyday living, while the mudroom introduces much-needed organization without compromising the home's architectural charm.
The result is a home that feels both expanded and deeply rooted—honoring its history while supporting the rhythms of contemporary family life.
